04.08.2004: After assessing the current market conditions, Nanosys Inc. reached the conclusion to postpone its IPO.The withdrawal of Nanosys follows the ones of several biotechnology and medical devices companies due to market conditions. This backlash in the public stock market, as regrettable as it is, reinforces us in our belief that in Nanotechnology most of the value creation will be made in private companies. Due to the nature of Nanotechnology - to provide existing industries with solutions - we strongly believe that most of the "Nanotech boutiques" owning the technology will create value by transfering their product - industrial processes to larger corporations through trade sales, without going through the stock market. The withdrawal of Nanosys Inc. will impact negatively and positively the Nanotech industry. The confidence of public equity investors will without any doubt be negatively affected. On the other hand, this backlash will increase the pressure on the valuation of private Nanotechnology company, providing venture capital investors with more attractive investment opportunities.
